Chapter Five starts with the fourth day of summer camp. Takumi stops the rehearsal to start a 10 minute break. Dr. Kanzaki stops Jun as everyone else leaves the hall to compliment the new scene Jun added about Selinuntius' struggle. He praises Jun's talent of acting and writing and Jun notices that for once, Dr. Kanzaki isn't treating him like a child.
Jun thanks him as he blushes from Dr. Kanzaki's compliments. He's feeling super motivated that he leaves Dr. Kanzaki behind to bring over the script for the next scene. The script he grabs have more lines from Selinuntius' perspective. He thinks about Dr. Kanzaki some more. He wants Dr. Kanzaki to be the first one to read it. He wants to learn more about Dr. Kanzaki. But one he gets back, he's too stunned to finished calling out Dr. Kanzaki's name.
Dr. Kanzaki is kindly chatting away with Haku and Togo. He praises the other two boys in a similar fashion to when he was complimenting Jun. Jun is still with a pain in his chest as he watches the three of them. He calls himself an odd person for ever having been happy because of Dr. Kanzaki because Dr. Kanzaki is very nice to everyone.
He gets spotted by an eager Dr. Kanzaki who asks to read through the next scene of Jun's script. Jun's chest is still in pain when he gives Dr. Kanzaki that he tries to hide it by smiling and saying the script is his best work yet. But that's not the end of their conversation. The rehearsal ends and Dr. Kanzaki has Jun stay behind so he can ask Jun, "Why do you think people can trust one another?"
Jun closes his eyes and thinks about how much Dr. Kanzaki trust him to keep asking that kind of question. After awhile Dr.Kanzaki apologizes for asking such a question to a student and is about to excuse himself until Jun back hugs him. While in that position Jun all teary-eyed tells Dr. Kanzaki how he was bullied a lot in France. Because of that he grew to hate himself very much and has been unable to trust himself since then. However, Dr. Kanzaki believed in him and told him that he was important.
The idea that someone else in the world (Dr. Kanzaki) needs him (Jun), has helped Jun build back up some of his confidence. Dr. Kanzaki is all "!!!" and he can't bring himself finish his question that would have asked Jun why he did [insert w/e he wanted to ask]. What he does manage to say though is that everyone is waiting for them.
Rehearsal is on again and the scene start with the Narrator commenting the start of the third day of Selinuntius waiting. It doesn't seem like Melose would be coming anytime soon. That brings joy to the Tyrant and he has a nice laugh calling Melos and selfish hypocrite. Selinuntius interupts him to defend his friend but the Tyrant just thinks it a pity for Selinuntius to die because of a friendship. The Tyrant tells Selinuntius to work for him but of course, Selinuntius exclaims that he'll never work for the Tyrant.
That's when the Tyrant gets all up on Selinuntius' face and holds up his chin. The Tyrant tells Selinuntius a story of what's to come. Melos will be late. Melos would then cry in front of everyone repeating an apology. The Tyrant tells Selinuntius to stop fooling around because Melos could replace his dear friend easily. Selinuntius begs him to stop, still believing in Melos.
Meanwhile, Melos is still at his sister's place, being enticed by her and her fiance's words for him to stay. Melos refuses their begging once more, wishing to not live a life full of lies and deceit. In order to make it back in time to the person most important to him, he lets go of his sister's hands and runs like Forrest Gump through the forest and past the river. He keeps running until he reaches the royal capital when suddenly a familiar face crosses his path.
It's Melos' disciple sent to tell him to turn back, Selinuntius has been sentenced to death so there is no point in traveling any further. If he continues, Melos would die as well.
