Chapter 8 opens with Kazemasa, Enya, Yoshitsune and the MC all wondering why someone would be after her. Kazemasa guesses that maybe it has something to do with the Taira Clan but Yoshitsune shushes him and says that they all should pray for Hyuga's health. In case you need a reminder--
The MC is blames herself. It's all her fault that Hyuga was hurt protecting her. As she remembers back to that moment the pain in her head she had been feeling causes her to fall unconscious. When she awakes the following morning she finds Yoshitsune by her side but her mind is already on Hyuga. She asks for an update on Hyuga's condition but Yoshitsune tells her that he's still unconscious. Enya joins in and she's got some news for them. Here memories have returned.
The two men hold their breath as she recalls her memories.
She's the daughter of a noble family that for generations have been responsible for the protection of the Three Sacred Treasures for the Imperial Family. It's a secret that few know because if the public knew, her family along with the Three Sacred Treasures would be in danger. Being the only daughter she was taught stuff like war and horseback ridding as she was to succeed the family. Until one day Emperor Goshirakawa asks her father to hide the treasures from the Heishi that feared them. He agreed but it was the death of him as Taira soldiers entered their mansion demanding for the treasures and then killed her mother in front of her when they refused.
During the struggle and candle feel on the floor, burning down the mansion. She and her father were able to escape their home but her father dies from an arrow shot in his back. In his last moments he tells her to protect the treasures from the Heishi. She gets away on horseback but an arrow grazes her and she tumbles down a mountain path and faints. This is where she met Hyuga.
As Yoshitsune embraces her, he tells her to think of them as family and vows to take revenge on the soldier who killed her parents. She looks up at him and nods for she also can't forgive those people. She has to protect the real treasures from the Heishi. She reveals that the treasures the Heishi brought from the castle were replicated to feign power. The real sacred treasures are within the Imperial Family Ship, the ship that the Heishi are using to run away with Emperor Antoku and the fake treasures. They plan to defeat the Heishi on that ship, realizing that they tried to shoot the MC because she was the only person that knows the real location of the sacred Treasures.
The sun begins to set and Hyuga still hasn't waken up. She tells herself that she loves him. Worried that he my die she begins to stroke his hair. Out-loud she pleads for him to wake up, not caring about how mean he is to her. It's then that Hyuga finally awakens. He tells her she's the mean one and immediately is back to his old mean self.
But she doesn't care as she starts happy crying. Seeing this, Hyuga tells her her red nose is beautiful. He confesses that since they first met, he had always thought of her as being pretty. Cue a sweet kiss!
He apologizes after the kiss. He can't do anything for her. She quickly tells him that all she needs is for her to stay by her side but Hyuga tells her he can't do that. He can't answer her feelings because he doesn't have the right to. And when she asks him why he doesn't have that right, he just holds her hand and refuses to answer.
Yoshitsune's army is now marching through the mountains on their way to meet the Heishi out at sea. Hyuga's already up and out with the rest of them. He heard of the MC's past when he woke up but hasn't said anything about it. They've gone back to acting like how they were before. On their way Yoshitsune decides that they take a break.But Kagetoki outwardly objects that they all take a break. The soldiers are just tools to Kagetoki.
Yoshitsune wins the argument, however, and the solider get to rest. The soldiers all praise Yoshitsune, calling themselves lucky to work under him. And of course, Enya has to join in on the Yoshitsune praise.
The only one who's silent is Hyuga. He stares off at the distance til Yoshitsune approaches him to not overwork himself since he's just recovering from a serious injury. Hyuga is an important friend and companion to him so he can't help but worry about his health. He turns to the MC to tell her the same thing and then requests of he to sneak onto the Heishi ship with Hyuga since she's the only one that knows what the real treasures look like. The MC and Hyuga agree to the task with Hyuga telling her to use him as a shield if she has to.
Neither of them wants the other to die so they both agree to live on together.
